we're in the embarcadero. behind us is market street. some of the buses there is one parked here on the right. we have seen some of the trains and muni trains and buses going up and down market street all morning. they are all empty right now. fast forward about 12 hours from now. the buss will be very busy. muni is one of the transit agencies offering extended service to accommodate all the new year eves if passengers. muni will run until 4:00 a.m.. ands at fourth and king muni will run until 215 this morning. muni will be free for all riders starting until 8:00 tonight. other truancy agencies will be offering free rides as well. after 11:00 caltrain will be free for all riders. last caltrain ride will leave at 2:00 a.m.. and in san jose vta riders will be free after 7:00 p.m.. on bart you will have to pay for your ticket. use a clipper card or buy your round trip ticket ahead of time. trains on bart will be running late tonight until 3:00 a.m. tuesday morning. in order to avoid congestion keep in mind trains will not be stopping at all

cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is along the embarcadero in san francisco watching for today's king tides. good morning, anne. >> reporter: good morning. we have been watching the water levels rise all morning and now it's really starting to rock and roll here. i'm along the embarcadero and you can kind of get a picture of how high it's getting from looking at that post underneath the pier. you can see where it has gotten wet. the water could certainly reach the bottom of that pier by the time we see the highest tides which is going to be about 10:00 this morning. these are the highest seasonal tides of the year. check out this video we shot yesterday on the connector ramp from 101 to highway 1 in marin. that flooded. normally that only happens when there's a storm but this was caused by the king tides. these very high tides could be getting higher as the years progress and the oceans fill up with more water for really a variety of reasons. 8" more in the past century. and you can see the proof in san francisco's sewer system. >> when i came here in 1990, there was never a time where the
